Mississippi Valley State University is gearing up for its annual career fair, designed to help its students land jobs and internships.

Scheduled for Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the concourse level of MVSU’s R.W. Harrison Sports Complex, MVSU students, alumni and community members are invited to attend the free event.

“The career fair is an opportunity for employers to come to campus and meet our students face-to-face and share information and opportunities available with their company,” said Essie Bryant, MVSU’s director of career services.

So far 42 companies have registered for the career fair. Bryant’s hoping more than 50 companies will be present at the fair.

She said students will also have an opportunity to register for mock interviews with employers “to get a real-life feel for the interview process.”

On Sunday, in advance of the career fair, J.C. Penney will partner with MVSU’s Career Services Center to host a College Suit-Up event from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at its Greenwood store.

“I am excited about this event, and it’s a great opportunity to build relationships with members of the university and community,” said Jamie Underwood, Penney’s general manager.

At that event, MVSU students, faculty, staff and alumni will receive 40 percent off career apparel.
